what we do
Lumasys develops high bandwidth, low power underwater optical communications systems using LED based blue light.
Lumasys develops high bandwidth, low power underwater optical communications systems using LED based blue light.
This product provides improved underwater communication using underwater optical modems including optical transmitters and optical receivers that allow omnidirectional transmission and reception of optical signals over distances of approximately 100 m at data rates greater than 1 Mbit/s. This product also provides for underwater communication networks having a plurality of optical modems communicating with each other.
Lumasys develops high-bandwidth, untethered, undersea optical communication capabilities and systems
The Lumasys optical modem system operates wirelessly through the water. It allows scientists to upload large amounts of data and transmit video in near real-time from seafloor sensors.
The Lumasys engineering team solves real-world challenges. Their optical modem systems are engineered to help scientists quickly recover data after it is collected from ocean depths.

BlueComm is a wireless, high-speed optical communications technology that can transfer data underwater at broadband speeds. Coupled with a 6G acoustic downlink, BlueComm allows for the extraction of large amounts of data in an energy efficient manner and supports the transmission of camera imagery and high definition video in real-time.

Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution
For nearly a century, WHOI has been one of the best known and most trusted names in ocean science and exploration. Our scientists and engineers have played a part in many of the discoveries that form the modern understanding of the ocean and how it interacts with other parts of the planet, including human society.
In 1971, Sonardyne was officially founded by John Partridge. John’s vision for his Company in those early days was to improve the safety and efficiency of underwater navigation for divers through innovation in acoustic signal processing, hardware design and custom engineering.
Lumasys, Inc. headquarters are located in Woods Hole, MA, USA,
the heart of ocean science and engineering.
